Peacock Acres TLC
Three Program members allign with the students' school to make sure they complete the correct number of credits and all of their assignments by communicating with their teachers weekly. The staff has experience dealing with foster children and the difficulties that they face. They are required to complete a training course to help them understand the specific challenges faced by the students and the best ways they can support them. Last year, Peacock Acres successfully worked with 40 volunteers that put in over 1,000 hours of volunteer work. During the grant period, July 2013 to june 2014, we plan to serve 50-60 clients, with approximately 25 of them from the south county.
Because of the increasing need of services to south county clients, Peacock Acres intends to ramp up our efforts to transporting and tutoring youth from Gonzales, Greenfield, and Soledad. Curently, The Learning Center is able to transport students in one van, but would like to add a second vehicle to supplement the growing need for services.

ABOUT US
The therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) started in 2011. Since the opening in 2011, the learning center has offered flexible hours between 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday throughout the school week. We also offer an intensive summer program for eight weeks, June through July. The Learning Center connects students with mentors who help them with assignments, motivate them to work harder, and tutor them daily. The long term effects, however, help the students of The Learning Center build strong, positive relationships with adults.
THe student-mentor relationship is based on motivation and support for the students and their individual abilities. The supportive style of the mentorsleads to the students recieveing higher grades, better behavior, and higher expectations of themselves.
