VOLUNTEERING

Peacock Acres has been working with service learners from CSUMB for about 2 years.  Peacock Acres utilizes the help of student mentors to assist the clients of the TLC.  These mentors work with the students at the TLC to assist them with schoolwork and help organize activities with the students.  Every year, Peacock Acres receives the support of over 100 volunteers.

 

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, here are some of the expectations and necessary steps to become one.

 

  • you must volunteer one full semester

  • Pass a background check

  • Pass TB test

  • Attend an orientation/training meeting

  • must volunteer at least once a week for a minimum of 2 and a half hours

 

We do accept high school volunteers if you need to accumulate some service hours, however there is only a limited number of spots available for you.

The programs Peacock Acres offers the foster youth of Monterey county:

 

Therapeutic group homes - Boys ages 7-17.  A level 7  group home providing 24-hour therapeutic carefor young boys removed from their families by Child Protective Services.

 

Transitional Housing Placement Program (THPP) - Boys and Girls, age 16-18.  For foster teens who are ready to practice their independant living skills

 

Peacock Acres Transitional Housing (PATH+) - Men and Women, ages 18-24.  For foster youth and former foster youth who still need residential support and life coaching.

 

Incarceration To Success (I2S) - Boys and Girls completing their terms of probation.  For foster youth that truly need a second chance.

 

Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) - Boys and Girls, ages 5-24.  For foster youth needing independant, focused acadmeic support, and peer-to-peer positive life mentoring.
